Welcome to The Sunset
The Sunset District is a neighborhood within San Francisco, California. It is the largest neighborhood in the county, including Golden Gate Park to the north and Ocean Beach to the west. Prior to its development for residential and commercial use, Sunset was mostly covered by sand dunes. Development of the area began around the time the Golden Gate Park was constructed, with the typical homes found here built around that same time, many being row homes and tract homes.

There are many great shopping and dining opportunities throughout the Sunset District. The following are only some of the best places to stop by in the area.
When looking around for great restaurants, one place to try is Thanh Long. This Vietnamese restaurant has many popular dishes, including roasted crab and garlic noodles alongside many other Vietnamese-style dishes. Another unique place to try is New Eritrea, serving a menu full of Eritrean and Ethiopian fare with available vegetarian dishes. For great seafood dishes, head out to Hook Fish Co, a combination seafood market and counter-serve shack with locally sourced ingredients. Pacific Catch is also an excellent choice for seafood, with flavors inspired by the Pacific Rim. There are countless other restaurants to try out in the Sunset area.
When it comes to shopping, there are many specialty shops to check out. One local favorite is Sloat Garden Center, a family-owned, local nursery chain that sells a variety of plants, soils, and garden tools. For trendy women’s clothing with a vintage-inspired touch as well as designer fashion and accessories, try checking out Ambiance SF Women's Clothing Store. A local gift shop, The Last Straw, is home to unique clothing, jewelry, cards, and stationery items. GENERAL STORE is a favorite stop for those looking for books, clothing, artisanal houseware, and furniture.

The Sunset District also has several opportunities for activities. Whether you want to spend some time at a park or enjoy a local event, there will be plenty of opportunities for it all.
Perhaps the most well-known among The Sunset’s parks is Golden Gate Park. This large urban park contains over 1,000 acres and many activities. With ample space for walking through lush gardens, segway tours, and complexes for many sports, Golden Gate Park is the perfect place to spend time relaxing. Also popular in the area is Ocean Beach. Located on the westernmost shore of Sunset, Ocean Beach has beautiful white sands and is the perfect space to go surfing, walking along the beach, and flying kites.
Schools
The Sunset is served by the San Francisco Unified School District for K-12. The neighborhood is also home to many higher education opportunities such as San Francisco State University and the Parnassus campus and medical center of the University of California, San Francisco.
