Located in southwestern San Francisco, St. Francis Wood is a primarily residential neighborhood characterized by beautiful family homes with larger-spaced lots. As a residential neighborhood, there are virtually no businesses in the area. St. Francis is the second of eight residential parks located within San Francisco. These parks were created to help fuel a suburban feel within the larger city and to beautify the areas. As a result, many restrictions were placed on the developments preventing commercial activity.

St. Francis Wood is a highly sophisticated neighborhood. Stemming from its development as a residential park, the community is relatively quiet without much commercial activity. This also resulted in homes with large amounts of land for San Francisco standards. St. Francis Wood has a suburban feel, and although it doesn’t have any business in the immediate area, there is easy access to restaurants and shops in the surrounding areas.

Since St. Francis Wood is a residence-only neighborhood, you will have to look to nearby areas for dining and shopping opportunities. The following options are some of the best and closest to St. Francis Wood.
When looking for great places to eat around the neighborhood, Little Original Joe’s is one great option. Located just outside the St. Francis Wood borders, Little Original Joe’s is a pizza joint with delicious pasta, soups, and salads. For a quick stop, try My Cup of Tea, a bubble tea cafe that also sells sandwiches, soups, and snacks. Another popular eatery in the area is Squat & Gobble Café, which serves from breakfast to dinner, with a menu including crepes and American fare. Orexi is an excellent choice for dinner, with Greek and Mediterranean dishes served in a stylish space.
In the commercial complex right outside St. Francis Wood is Siren Boutique, a women’s clothing store that also sells various jewelry, footwear, and beauty products. Further down the street, you will find Stonestown Galleria, a two-story shopping center that offers a variety of popular name-brand retail shops, great restaurants, and a theater. In nearby Inner Parkside, you can find Guerra Quality Meats, a butcher shop, deli, and market offering many services, including groceries, prepared foods, and catering.

St. Francis Wood is home to two scenic park areas that allow for a peaceful day out. St. Francis Wood Park offers large green spaces, a children’s playground, tennis courts, and basketball courts. The St. Francis Home Association also has a beautiful fountain with a courtyard for sitting out in the sun and relaxing. Santa Monica Park is a great place to take a stroll or sit amongst the greenery for fresh air. A short drive will also take you to Golden Gate Park, a large urban park with ample space for outdoor activity.
